It started with “hello”. You hold hands for the first time. Walls are broken down and allow yourself to be vulnerable with each other. You fall in love with each other’s quirks. Many shared moments and experiences later lead you to the next step - getting engaged.
Engagement photos that feel like the two of you
Almost every couple tells me the same thing before their session: "We're so awkward in front of the camera." Almost none of them are by the end. I keep direction light and let you do what you would normally do, whether that's walking, talking, teasing each other or sharing a picnic, and I photograph everything that happens in between. The result is engagement photos that look like your relationship, not a stiff pose from a catalog.
Favorite engagement photo spots in New York and New Jersey
New York City gives us an endless list of backdrops. A few I love:
- DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge Park: cobblestone streets, the bridge overhead and the Manhattan skyline across the water, especially around sunset.
- Central Park: Bethesda Fountain, wide green lawns and shady paths that feel miles away from the city.
- Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City: open views across the East River to Midtown.
- Your neighborhood: brownstone blocks, a bike ride through the city or the coffee shop where you had your first date.
- The beach: a barefoot walk along the water at golden hour.
